IPv6 is short for "Internet Protocol Version 6", the "next generation" protocol designed by the IETF to replace the current version Internet Protocol, IP Version 4 ("IPv4"). For more info about the protocol itself, you'll find lots thru google or any search engine.
A frequently posted question is "when will mIRC support IPv6 ?". The only answer we can give people asking about IPv6 support is the same answer we give when asked about any future feature: When or if Khaled decides to. Khaled almost never posts that a requested feature is on his to-do list. He doesnt announce in advance what features will be added or when, or what all is on his list to consider for future versions of mIRC
There are numerous threads here about IPv6. Use our search feature, set it to "all forums" and expand the date range to "5 years" using IPv6 as your search term. Many of the threads involving this subject were kindly listed by landonsandor and dekuhaze in this thread .
Common to most of the threads:
-people point out that there are still about a billion IPv4 addies left
-that IPv6 is only supported by WindowsXP and Windows 2000
-others state why they would/wouldnt like it or see a need for it.
If, after reading those threads, you have new information to add or would like to give your opinion, feel free to post to any of those threads. (Please dont post just to ask when or if it will be added)
If you are experienced enough, you may wish to use this patch to add IPv6 functionality to mIRC. Do note, Khaled/Krejt nor anyone else can help you with the DLL, it is an independent patch (not affiliated with mIRC Co.) - only use it if you're confident on how to set it up.
